How do you improve on the design of a book?  Paperback, Hardcover, Leather Bound; There's not much that you can do with the design of a book to improve upon it, but there is a way to completely revolutionize the way that you read a book.  Some publishers offer their books for sale in PDF form, but who wants to read a book on a big, clumsy laptop?  Amazon, one of the world largest online stores and booksellers developed a revolutionary device back in 2007 that would change the way that we read books.  They designed a device called the Amazon Kindle, which is an electronic reading device that looks similar to a tablet computer.

You might be thinking: “Who wants to stare at a computer screen and read a book”, and that's exactly what I was thinking at first as well.  After hours spent in front of a computer screen at work, why would anyone want to read a book on an LCD display?  Amazon has addressed this with the Amazon Kindle, using 16 level grayscale electronic paper which is easy to look at.

The 6 inch screen allows a reader to comfortably read a book that can be downloaded through it's free connection to WhisperNet, which is a cell connection operated by Sprint.  It's free to use for Kindle users and allows for downloading new books and also provides access to Wikipedia.  Users can easily download up to 200 books which are stored on its 2GB internal memory or add an SD card for even more storage capacity.  With large SD cards becoming quite inexpensive, a Kindle user can have access to hundreds or even thousands of titles stored on their Kindle.  The Kindle is based on a Linux operating system and comes complete with a USB port and a headphone jack.

After the success of the first 6 inch Amazon Kindle, a newer version, the Kindle 2 was introduced.  It offered a longer battery life, faster page loading and even a feature that allowed the text to be read aloud, through attached headphones.  With great storage capacity, Amazon has said that they new Kindle 2 will hold up to 1500 books, which is plenty for even the most avid reader.  In order to make the new Kindle thinner, the SD slot was removed, and the extra storage capacity was added instead.  At only .36 inches thick, it's nice and light and can easily be carried everywhere you would want to take a regular book.

The Amazon Kindle has revolutionized the way that avid readers now read their books.  No longer do you have to have an entire library taking up space in your home when you can have a Kindle with over 1000 books loaded onto it.  Carry it in your purse, briefcase, glovebox or anywhere you want to take a book and enjoy the convenience of electronic books.  If you haven't yet tried out one of these exceptional electronic reading devices, don't you think it's about time you checked out an Amazon Kindle?

The latest generation of Amazon Kindle takes an already great design and adds to it to make an even better electronic reading device. The first generation Amazon Kindle was a great product, but there's always room for improvement and that's exactly what the Kindle DX is all about. The most noticeable change that Amazon decided upon was to offer a larger screen at 9.7 inches. Although it's much larger and offers more screen real estate, it's still very thin, making it a great portable reading device. The new larger display allows you to read books, newspapers and other electronic media like PDF files and even blogs and magazines. Images and text appear sharp, but are easy to read and won't cause fatigue from reading too much, which is much different from using a laptop or netbook as a reading device. A new handy search feature allows you to easily find what words or phrases that you are looking for without having to search page by page like a regular book.

The Kindle DX is about the same thickness as a magazine; Just over 1/3 of an inch. It's perfect for holding and because it's nice and light you won't get tired of holding it. One of the handiest features of the Kindle DX is its ability to rotate between portrait and landscape view, simply by rotating the Kindle DX. This is a great feature for pictures, graphs and charts that need to be slightly larger to see properly. There's even a PDF reader built right into the Kindle DX, allowing you to take along any of your PDF files that you may have received by email or e-books that you have downloaded.

Increased storage capacity has made the Kindle DX even better than its predecessor. You can easily store up to 3500 of your favorite books, which can easily replace a large library in your home. If you have a small home or an apartment, the ability to store thousands of books on one small device is certainly more appealing than trying to cram bookshelves where there simply isn't any more space.

One of the other improvements over the first Amazon Kindle is the increased battery life. On just one charge you can read for up to 4 days straight, if you have the wireless feature turned on, or an incredible two weeks with the wireless off. This makes the Kindle DX a great companion to take to the cottage or camping even where electricity may not be available. One charge takes just 4 hours and you're ready to read a number of your favorite books on a single charge.

Amazon also allow you to use a wireless service operated by Sprint called WhisperNet, which allows wireless downloading of books over Springs super fast 3G network. In about 1 minute you can download a new book and be reading in no time and it's available wherever Sprint's cell network goes.

With a screen that looks just like reading on regular paper, the Amazon Kindle DX will certainly revolutionize the way that we read books in the future. Not only is it convenient, but it allows publishers to keep putting out quality books without having to cut down more trees to make paper.
